A DTS and Surround Sound Question.?

reciever sony str-de597 90wx6 dolby digital ex pro-logic II,dts neo 6 my dvd player has dolby digital and dts digital out.I’m using a digital coax cable.When watching a dvd how do you set it up the dvd player? Do you put it on dolby digital stereo or dolby digital surround sound.Am I trying to match the signals? Also my dts doesn’t come on, my reciever says ‘unlock’ ?Does that mean anything ?If so how do I unlock it. Thanks

First of all, set your audio input mode to COAX IN. Then you have to press the A.F.D. switch a few times to get the receiver into A.F.D. AUTO mode. Once you do this, the receiver will accept whatever it is presented through the inputs and decode/match them accordingly. (Just make sure your digital coaxal cable is in the proper input on the receiver and that all your speakers are properly connected.) You will have to go into the set-up menu on your DVD player and be sure it is sending output through digital coax, also.

I don’t know what to tell you about the ‘unlock’ message. It may clear itself up when you set the sound fields properly. If not then try resetting sound fields to the initial settings. Use the buttons on the receiver for the operation. 1 ) Press ?/1 to turn off the power. 2 ) While holding down 2CH, press ?/1. The letters “SF. CLR.” appears in the display and all sound fields are reset to the initial setting. This should be fine to do anytime you feel you might have accidently misaligned your sound fields.

This procedure can also be used to return settings to their factory defaults. (Use the buttons on the receiver for this operation) 1 ) Press ?/1 to turn off the receiver…. 2 ) Hold down ?/1 for 5 seconds…. “PUSH” and “ENTER” appears flashing on the display…. 3 ) Press ENTER… the word “CLEARING” appears on the display for a while, then “CLEARED” appears. You are done.

Sometimes, the Sony remote control is not the easiest thing in the world to work with. When all else fails, you can always pull out the manual, or call 1-800-222-SONY during regular business hours.
