Sony Vaio E series or Dell Inspiron 14r?

I’m going to start college this fall and i’m in the market for a new laptop.I know next to nothing about computers so sorry for any mistakes and stupid questions. I’m most concerned about how long the laptop will last, as my parents are paying for this one but the next one i get comes out of my pocket. I’m hoping to find something that will last 4 years and I’ve asked my some of my friends and some of their dells have lasted 5 years. I have no clue about the Vaio but supposedly they’re better than dells? I’m on a budget though, around 800 bucks and i’ve narrowed it down to either the dell inspiron 14r or the Sony Vaio E series model number VPCEG190X. The sony is about 40/50 bucks cheaper. Im also concerned about the battery life, but durability takes precedence.

As a user of Vaio S series,I’m so glad that you take Vaio in your consideration. However, put it objectively, Dell is more durable. My dad is an honest user of Dell, whose Inspiron 11 ,even had endured once (or twice) dropoff, lasted more than 5 years without any problem. To Vaio, dropoff is fatal; even a heavy pressure may cause fracture of monitor, according to my friends online. Thus, as your needs, Dell may be priority. Hope your laptop will be longeval.
